The Miami Dolphins have hired former Texas A&M head coach Mike Sherman to be their offensive coordinator which could give them a big advantage in the scouting of quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
Tannehill is one of the more interesting prospects at the quarterback position in the 2012 NFL Draft. He played wide receiver most of his time at Texas A&M before becoming the starting quarterback midway through the 2010 season and went on to develop nicely. His head coach was Sherman, who is now the offensive coordinator with the Dolphins who own the eighth or ninth overall pick in the draft depending on a coin flip.
Tannehill had an up-and-down senior season, but managed to complete 61 percent of his passes for 3,744 yards, 29 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He threw three interceptions in a game three times, against Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Texas which some teams may be worried about, but was rather controlled in other games throughout the season.
Tannehill has a huge upside and athleticism, but would he be worth a Top 10 selection in the NFL draft?
There has been plenty of speculation among the social media world giving Tannehill draft grades ranging from Top 10 pick to second round pick. With the amount of teams that could be looking at a quarterback, the Dolphins being one of them, it could be possible that Tannehill could be a high draft pick when all is said and done.
However, he is currently recovering from a foot injury that kept him out of the Senior Bowl and may jeopardize his chances of performing at the NFL Combine.
If Tannehill is to be a high first round draft pick, he's going to have to show teams that he could be consistently accurate. His upside and present skills alone should get him into the first, but with the Dolphins addition of Sherman, could he convince the front office that Tannehill should be the team's quarterback of the future?
A Tannehill/Sherman reunion in Miami seems like a pretty good idea, but it would depend on the cost.
